We have learned from Senator Chris
Dingell, who worked hard for passage, that the Vear transportation bill
was signed yesterday by the governor. This statute permits any legal owner
of a handgun in Michigan to transport his handgun "for a lawful
purpose... unloaded in a closed case designed for the storage of
firearms" in either the trunk of a vehicle so equipped or not readily
accessible to passengers in a vehicle that does not have a trunk.
Many people have worked long and hard to bring this about, and we salute
all of you. Our members have been instrumental in their calls to the
governor's office, and we thank every one of you for your support.
